About the meme
The Ghost Filter Prank uses a TikTok effect called "kuntilanak behind" (a kuntilanak is a female ghost from Indonesian folklore): a ghost with long grey hair, huge white eyes, a wide grin and clawed hands rises behind the person being filmed, and the video is their reaction when they see the screen. More than a million TikTok videos use the effect. The wave took off in early October 2026: a South African TikToker's prank on his family's nanny reached about 342,000 plays and was covered by Briefly News. By October 16, #ghostprank had about 8,900 videos and 309 million views, and #ghostfilter about 4,600 videos and 90 million. This template turns one adult photo into an 8-second vertical selfie clip in which the ghost rises behind you, ducks when you look, and pops back cheek to cheek.
