Where did Thriller Dance AI come from?
"Thriller" is Michael Jackson's 1983 music video. Its street routine, in which a crowd of zombies dances in sync behind the lead, is one of the most copied dances in pop culture, and the official upload on YouTube has passed 1.2 billion views.
In 2026 AI video tools made it a one-photo trend. On TikTok, @moonwalkcats posted AI cats in red jackets doing the routine ("Michi Jackson"); the top one, from August 2, reached about 607,000 plays, and a Halloween version on October 9 about 120,000. @king_odiee's AI dachshund ("Found my Halloween costume") reached about 118,000 the same day.
On X, @Arminn_Ai's October 7 version made with Higgsfield Genjutsu passed 96,000 views. In October more than ten single-page "Thriller dance AI" generator sites appeared ahead of Halloween.
Why did Thriller Dance AI take off?
Everyone knows the moves, so a new face at the front of the zombie line reads in a second.
It is a Halloween costume without a costume: a foggy street, a full moon and twenty zombies behind you.
Pets, friends and characters all fit the lead spot, which keeps the remixes coming every October.
How people play Thriller Dance AI
1. Your Halloween post
Use a clear, front-facing photo of yourself and post the clip as your costume reveal.
2. Tag the friend who can't dance
With their permission, put the friend who never dances at the front of the zombie line.
3. Keep it yours
Use your own photo or one from an adult who agreed. The template never generates Michael Jackson's face.
