What does "Shan Shen Bu (Shanshenbu, the Chinese Flash Step)" mean?

Shan Shen Bu (闪身步, "flash step") is a sideways dodge from Anhui's Flower Drum Lantern folk dance, and the meme comes from an old Beijing Dance Academy tutorial in which professor Zhao Tiechun calls out and demonstrates it. Copying the tutorial took off on Chinese social media in September 2026, with related videos passing 600 million plays by September 24. On TikTok, people now mime the step in sync with his narration to slip away from a punch, a hug, a question or a chore.
