What does "Cat in the Hat Serial Killer Trend" mean?

The Cat in the Hat serial killer trend was a hoax: AI-made photos and clips of a figure in a costume like the 2003 live-action Cat in the Hat, lurking in neighborhoods at night. It started in County Wexford, Ireland, in mid-August 2026 and spread to the UK. Police in both countries said it wasn't real, and people kept it going anyway with more AI clips and costume skits.
